Nautilus

a suspended stove

See later version at Mall Gallery

This stove is suspended from the ceiling by nautical rigging and anchored to a 100KG+ washer one metre diameter, and three inches thick.

Part of the brief for this design was to allow children to roam the living room without the need for a fire surround. The final design arrived with a stove some 1200mm high by 500 wide, the hottest part of the stove being above the centre of the window about 1 metre above floor level. The unit is held in midair by four springs radiating up from four quadrants of 1 metre diameter, 150KG 'washer' sat beneath. The design is fully clean burn the air intake regulator just below the door, the stack valve on exit pipe at rear.

Construction TIG welded stainless steel, the door components are profile cut heavy steel plate and there is a refractory stainless liner/heat exchanger to facilitate clean combustion & efficiency.

'Nautilus' was installed as a focal point of a listed building in Shropshire

Heat output up to 10 Kw, fuel; wood or coal.
